Madison A Better Chance, Inc. - Check us Out

Do you know about Madison A Better Chance Program? ABC of Madison provides unique opportunities to volunteer and donate to the education of young scholars, future leaders.

Madison A Better Chance is a national program with a local branch that helps talented young scholars to reach their full potential through education.  ABC (short for A Better Chance) has a home in Madison where five bright and hard working young men live and attend Daniel Hand High School.  The purpose of ABC is to provide academically talented minority youth with the opportunity to have an outstanding secondary school education.   We provide housing on Durham Road in Madison, Connecticut, which becomes their home away from home and the boys typically start as high school freshman and they remain with us until they graduate from Daniel Hand.   We assist in college applications and placements before the young scholars move on.

At the Madison house we provide for all their needs.  There is a Resident Director who takes care of day -to -day household operations, is in charge of rules, curfews and chores.  David Robinson does an amazing job with the boys; he is a graduate of the Better Chance Program in Amherst and attended Wesleyan College.  Kedrick Robinson who has a degree in mechanical engineering is in charge of tutoring and the strict study hours at the house.  These two men do an outstanding job of feeding, educating and nurturing the boys as they live in residence.

Each scholar has a host family with whom he spends one weekend a month.  The young men become a part of their host families and this helps to orient them into both Daniel Hand and the Madison community at large.  Strong relationships between the student and his host family form and last long after they graduate the program.  It is a deep and rewarding experience for the host family and the scholar.
