Madison's Polson Middle School Peer Helpers Group Receives Award At State Capitol

Polson Middle School Peer Helpers receive CT state award

June 4, 2012 (Hartford) - Members of the Polson Peer Helpers group Tuesday were honored at the 17th Annual Challenge to Educational Citizenship Awards at the State Capitol. Projects from around the state were judged by the State Student Advisory Council on Education.

Entrants were judged on good citizenship, a commitment to helping others, civic awareness, leadership, responsibility and teamwork to provide opportunities for students to help others.

The Polson Peer Helpers were recognized for their "Have You Filled a Bucket Today" campaign, that helped elementary school kids learn about the effects of bullying. The program teaches kids to visualize every student carrying around an imaginary bucket.

Every time you are nice to a person, both buckets are filled. If you are mean, both buckets are emptied. Students are encouraged to keep everyone's buckets filled.
