Jason Anick and his Quartet will be giving a concert at the North Madison Congregational Church's Fire In The Kitchen concert series, of course, but what's special is the free workshop that afternoon. The workshop series here in Madison is actually known world-wide for the talent of the instructors, and artists from around the globe continually apply to be able to teach and perform there.
On November 10, the "young lion" of the Gypsy jazz world, Jason Anick, will be teaching workshop attendees about the world of Gypsy jazz violin. Starting with it's roots in traditional Gypsy fiddling and Hungarian Czardas, Jason will take it all the way up to the sylings of the legendary Stephane Grapelli and the Hot Club of France. Those wishing to attend with instruments must be at least intermediate and above, as there's a lot to cover, and much of the material is advanced. High school students and adults will really benefit the most. Others are free to audit and eavesdrop in on this opportunity.
The Concert, featuring Jason;s new quartet, is at 7:00 PM, and will feature not only Jason's traditional roots in Gypsy Jazz (he's toured the world as John Jorgenson's violinist) but also his pushing the music's boundaries into the 21st century. Jason also is garnering high praise for his work on mandolin and electric mandolin.
