Single, White and Gray, Neutered Shih Tzu Mix Seeks Companion, Maybe More

Dog Adoption Family Event to be held at Chester Fairgrounds June 23rd and 24th

Kaine is a young small bundle of gentle. loving joy from rural Georgia.  He loves walks and car rides and is leash trained.  He had a family, but was given up to a shelter when they moved to a smaller apartment.  Kaine was set to be euthanized.  He's coming to Chester Fairgrounds this weekend to meet his new family.  Interested in raising Kaine?

Dog Days has Kaine and 91 other adoptable dogs ready to meet their new families this weekend.  Dog Days is a Connecticut based non-profit created to do event-planning type activities for the purpose of finding homes for shelter dogs.  Dogs arrive from all around the state of Connecticut as well as from shelters in the south.   All the dogs have been quarantined, vetted, groomed, and deemed healthy and ready for adoption.  Shelters are bringing puppies, young dogs, and seniors- of many different sizes and temperaments.  Each dog has an online photo and mini-bio (http://www.adoptapet.com/shelter80928-dogs.html). The Dog Days Event will have an on site veterinarian, as well as trainers, who can assist with any questions about the adoption process and transition.

Families who plan to add an adoptable dog to their home are encouraged to bring their dogs to meet the new family member.  Trainers will provide guidance on this process.Adopters are encouraged to complete prescreening adoption applications online to reduce the amount of time needed for processing paperwork and checking references (http://dogdayschester.blogspot.com/p/how-it-works.html).  Adoption counselors will be on site to take new applications.

Dog Days will showcase many dogs from Connecticut municipal pounds.  Additionally, several high kill shelters in the south bring dogs for adoption.  Some of these communities do not have municipal animal control offices, so it’s up to kind-hearted townspeople to take action.  In one case, “the shelter” is really a woman's house:  a woman who takes in unwanted animals and feeds them and tries to find them food and medical care, all the while caring for her mother who is terminally ill.

Dog Days has no income and is entirely volunteer operated.  Last year, their first year in operation, they found homes for about 500 dogs!   This weekend, the Dog Days volunteers hope to make that about 600 adopted dogs.
