Don't Let Stress Ruin Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving can be a happy but stressful day. Whether you are the hostess charged with cooking the bird or a guest traveling during the nation's busiest travel time of the year, stress can mount and detract from your enjoyment of the holiday. Years ago I attended a women's health conference at Yale and the experts were unanimous: when you are stressed out, the best remedy is getting physical. A walk in the woods or a stroll or run along the shore are great ways to release stress and clear your head. Attending a yoga class that emphasizes deep breathing also can help settle you down. This Saturday in addition to my class at the Mercy Center I will be offering Yoga Nidra, a deep form of meditation. Known as "Yogi Sleep," Yoga Nidra puts you in a state of near sleep but you are fully conscious. It is often said that 30 minutes of Yoga Nidra is like 3 hours of sleep. If you can't make it Saturday, UCLA has a great Yoga Nidra series that you can download for free on Itunes. For more information, please visit beachroseyoga.com.
