Who Should We Include In The Best Pizza Poll?

We're going to do a poll on who has the best pizza in or near Madison. Here are a list of possible contenders below. You tell us whether we should add anyone to the list.

Coming up soon, we're going to do a poll to ask readers who has the best pizza in or around Madison. We wanted to make sure our list of possible contenders is complete. Here's the list we're thinking about, in no particular order.

Are we missing any? The only criteria is that they have to serve great pizza, and they have to be in or near Madison, or deliver pizza to Madison.

Once our list is complete, we'll ask you to vote. So, while we're gathering out list, you might want to do a little research and make sure, when you vote, that you are voting for the very best! And, if you own a pizza parlor, make sure you let your customers know that this poll is coming up!

Red tomato & nuzzo (they deliver)

Darren and JAM, thanks! I think we're going to run the actual poll next Monday through Friday ... so be sure to vote then. Are there any others we should include on the list?

I know that it is a little drive, but if you are going to talk about pizza on the conneticut shoreline, you have to mention Pepe's!!
Pem McNerney (Editor) February 20, 2012 at 03:39 PM
Justin you are probably right, but then I would have to consider all of the others between here and New Haven! I love the Born in America in Branford, and also Sally's, too! Maybe if this contest for the greater Madison metropolitan area goes well, we can do a contest for the Greater New Haven area. Do you think Pepe's is better than Red Tomato? I love RT, but also am partial to Village Pizza too. Village Pizza is Greek pizza, correct?
Justin Syder February 20, 2012 at 03:43 PM
I think Pepe's is the best! After I eat Village Pizza, I feel like I'm going to have a heart attack from all the grease
Pem McNerney (Editor) February 20, 2012 at 03:45 PM
Pepe's is good! Have you tried Sally's in New Haven, too?
Justin Syder February 20, 2012 at 03:46 PM
yes and modern
Pem McNerney (Editor) February 20, 2012 at 03:58 PM
Ah, yes, Modern is great too. So much pizza, so little time ...

Grand Pizza in Clinton and DaVinci's in Killingworth.
Pem McNerney (Editor) February 20, 2012 at 09:30 PM
I like Grand, too. Didn't they used to be in Madison a while back? Have not been to DaVinci's. Heard it was good. Remember to vote starting next Monday!

Bobby's Apizza rte 80 north branford!! We live in north madison and it only a 7minute ride. Only problem is 1/4 of the pizza is gone by the time I get it home.
Pem McNerney (Editor) February 20, 2012 at 09:52 PM
Good suggestion, PJ! I will add that since it's a seven minute ride from Madison. What kind of pizza do you usually get there?
Justin Syder February 20, 2012 at 10:08 PM
Carmines and Cozy Corner in Durham are really good too!
Pem McNerney (Editor) February 20, 2012 at 10:21 PM
Good suggestions too! I forgot about those. Thanks. Will add ...

Bobby's is fantastic. As a child growing up in Guilford in the 60's every Saturday night our Aunts, Uncles and cousins visited and dinner was Bobby's Apizza. One Uncle worked for Foxon Park, another for a dairy that was in the Chesire area, so there was always plenty of ice cream and soda too. Great memories.

Alforno's in Old Saybrook is good! :)
Pem McNerney (Editor) February 21, 2012 at 01:11 PM
Alforno's is excellent! I like their main courses as well. I don't think I'm going to include them this time around, since they are not directly adjacent to Madison. But I'll keep them in mind for the regional poll. Alforno's also has an email list you can sign up for and they will let you know what the specials are for that week.

Hmm, I am reading this post in MADISON patch and thus think the survey should be for pizza's restaurant in or near Madison. For what it's worth Pepe was awarded "Connecticut's Most Popular Restaurant," by Zagat in 2011.
Pem McNerney (Editor) February 21, 2012 at 03:35 PM
Yes, I think for this first one we're going to do Madison and towns next to Madison that have pizza places within a short drive. Didn't know about that award!
