Where's Waldo? You're Getting Warm! Warmer! Hot!!!!!! ...

The Second Annual Where's Waldo event has started and there are kids all over town searching for the ever elusive little man with the red striped shirt and friendly grin.

Sponsored by R. J. Julia Booksellers, the event this year has more than 25 retailers and other businesses in Madison participating. Families can pick up the entry sheet at R. J. Julia at 768 Boston Post Road. They then have to find at least 16 of the 25 Waldos stashed away around town.

If not for the contest, Nicole Bellanger and her two children, Shea and Truman Looby, still might be one of those people passing by The Little Station at Beach Tree Cottages, and wondering what that cute little shop was all about.

Instead, Shea and Truman hunted down Waldo, got their papers validated and then Shea, Truman, and Nicole perused the different offerings at the store. Nicole said she was loving the hunt as much, if not more, than her children.

She said Shea and Truman were almost to 15 Waldos discovered and that already they had visited several places that were new to them including The Little Station at Beach Tree Cottages.

"I have to say I otherwise might not have come here. And I love it. Love it!" Nicole said.

What's not to love? The shop is a little cozy cottage at 1187 Boston Post Road stocked with reasonably priced jewelry, beach bags, hats, scarfs, soap, whimsical bottle openers, interesting magazines, and other gifts.

Manager Amanda Talmadge runs the shop. There are also summer rentals available by the night or week or summer at Beach Tree Cottages. And Amanda's dad not only runs Clutter Monster, home and office debris removal, he also runs the barbecue truck you might have seen serving customers outside the cottages on the weekends. The truck also is available for private parties.

Nicole said they also stopped at the Tidewater Inn. As locals, she said, they might not have necessarily done so. But they did, thought the inn was charming. Nicole said she is now in a position where she could recommend the inn to out-of-towners, and she said she had a lovely time talking with the owner.

And, on July 31st, there will be a big party at R. J. Julia with prizes. At that party, participants can make a donation to the Madison Unites fund, which is helping to support businesses and employees affected by a recent fire downtown that destroyed a building. The fund also supports the brave volunteer firefighters who battled the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other nearby businesses and apartments.

In other words, it's fun for the kids, fun for the parents, and great for the town. Talk about a win, win, win.
