Sidewalk Sales! Library Book Sale! Arts Festival! Orange Crush! And More!

Here's the weekly line-up on fun things to do in Madison this weekend from the Madison Chamber of Commerce.

Attention shoppers..on your marks... get set ...GO!    The Madison Chamber of Commerce's Annual SIDEWALK SALES begin TODAY, Thursday the 26th of July and continue through Sunday the 29th.  Visit our great Chamber member stores to scoop up great bargains while you LOVE YOUR LOCAL! Remember, there are a lot of great bargains INSIDE too, so if the weather is uncooperative, the sales are still going strong!

If it's Sidewalk Sales Days, that means the Scranton Library's Book Sale and Madison Art Society's Annual Scranton Memorial Library- Festival of the Arts, Outdoor Art Exhibition are also taking place.  Be sure to stop by Academy School (corner of Academy Street and Route One) to comb through the most organized used book sale imaginable.  Hours are Friday and Saturday, 9am to 5pm; Sunday 9am until 2pm.  The Art Show and Sale takes place Friday & Saturday, 10am to 6pm under tents at 26 Wall Street in Madison just behind the library and diagonally across from the Madison Post Office.  It is a great opportunity for the public to view the paintings by 21 local artists and to support the Scranton Memorial Library with the sales from their paintings. MAS artists donate 10% of the proceeds from the sale of their paintings to the library.

Sounds like the Blues!

The GRASSY STRIP Music and Art Series on the lawn of the Madison Beach Hotel is a complimentary celebration of live music performances along with a selection of regional artisans including painters, potters, jewelers, woodcrafters and a variety of others showcasing their talents.

On July 26th, they welcomes blues singer, bandleader, guitarist and producer, Duke Robillard. This seasoned artist is a man in command of a full range of creative talents - unique in the blues, and rare in the music industry as a whole. The New York Times says, "Robillard is a soloist of stunning force and originality."

 

 

The Beach & Rec Concert on the Green Sunday evening series continues on July 29th featuring ORANGE CRUSH, an alternative 80's band.  It's a fun way to end the weekend.  Bring a picnic dinner and chairs & enjoy this open air concert from 6 to 8pm.   

  

If you'd like tickets ($5 per person) to attend Pitching for Charity softball game and Family Fun Day (August 11, 11-3 at the Surf Club) please stop by at any real estate office in town or call the Chamber: 203-245-7394.  Some Chamber members and realtors will be competing n this fun event, a fundraiser for the Madison Food Pantry and Neighbor to Neighbor.  Chamber team sponsors are Jolie Boutique, The Country Shop of Madison, Ciao Bella and Khaki and Black.  After the games, there's a picnic at Garvan Point at the Surf Club and a Dunk Tank featuring a few notorious locals!   

 

Volunteers are needed at the Madison Food Pantry!   Each week they need 10-12 volunteers to work the pantry, and each volunteer usually works twice a month. If you are interested in voluntering, please contact Vinny Diglio by clicking here.    

 

 Come Party on the Water!
The Estuary Council of Seniors, Inc. invites you join them for "Wine on the Water" August 9th, 6 - 8 pm at 220 Main Street, Old Saybrook.  The evening will delight all with a wonderful variety of wines and live music, raffles and scrumptious Hors d'oeuvres.  Raise a glass to the evening and enjoy the beautiful view overlooking the CT River estuary.  Bring your friends to support the Stan Greimann Estuary Medical Outpatient Transportation Service.  This is the only affordable transportation available to most of the seniors in the 9-town Estuary region to go to medical appointments outside of the estuary region.  Call 860 388-1611 for tickets.
