Ridiculously Low Prices. Great Clothes And Gifts. More Fun Than The Mall.

Madison and Guilford are having their sidewalk sales next weekend. If you've never shopped these downtowns (heaven forbid) or even if you haven't in a while, it's a great time to start again.

There is a common misperception among some that shopping the streets of downtown Madison and Guilford is more expensive than shopping at a mall, or at a chain store.

Not true, especially during the sidewalk sales, when prices are ridiculously low. It is true that you'll get clothes and gifts you won't find at a chain or at the mall. And you'll have the satisfaction of supporting local business owners while shopping in small New England shoreline towns, packed with charm and friendly people.

Prices will never be better than next weekend, July 25 through 28, when both towns are holding sidewalk sales. You can start in either town, then drive down the post road to the other town. Both towns have great places to eat, and there are often food trucks in front of Academy School in Madison, close to the shopping district, at the corner of Academy Street and the Boston Post Road. Both towns have scenic town greens with big shade trees close to the shopping areas that are great places to picnic.

While driving from Madison to Guilford or Guilford to Madison, there are many great places to shop along the way as well. Two of our favorites are the Stock Exchange, at 170 Boston Post Road in Madison, and Domestic Possessions at 11 Garnet Park Road, just off of the Boston Post Road in Madison, and right around the corner from The Stock Exchange.

Less than two miles from the Madison town center, you'll find Hammonasset Beach State Park at the intersection of the Hammonasset Connector and the Boston Post Road, which is a great way to end the day, watch the sunset, and think about all the fun new stuff you just bought. Or, send your spouse to the beach while you shop and meet up for dinner later.

Guilford's sidewalk sales run Thursday, Friday, Saturday, July 25, 26, 27. Madison's sidewalk sales run Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, July 25, 26, 27, 28.
