Patch's Picks: Beachcomber Edition

We asked downtown merchants to send some of their "don't-miss-this" items for Beachcomber night Thursday, Aug. 18th (that's tonight!) at 5:30 p.m. Here are some of their picks. You are welcome to add yours!

It's that time of year again, Beachcomber Night in downtown Madison. From the piano concert on the lawn of the Scranton Seahorse Inn to the special deals at many of the shops, it looks like there will be something for everyone.

We asked some of the merchants to supply us with pictures of their "don't miss this" picks. Take a look and see what you think. You are welcome to add yours!

Stroll along the sidewalk sampling wines and beer from Connecticut vineyards, local brewers and distributors while enjoying the sounds of live music along the way.  Meander into the shops and restaurants to find out what wonderful specials they have for the evening. 

In addition to wine, beer, music and tasty snacks, your $10 participation fee enables you to be entered into a drawing to win some incredible prizes!

A portion of proceeds will benefit our own Friends of Hammonasset.

One grand prize partners an overnight stay at with a certificate valued at $50 for the .

Other prizes include gift certificates to the , , and dozens of Madison shops.

Bob McCandlish, a licensed massage therapists from Hands On Expressions Massage, said he is excited to be taking part in the evening's festivities. 

"Innkeepers Mike Hafford, Bill Speed and I will be at the Scranton Seahorse Inn just across from the library. I will be giving chair massages for a suggested $5 donation for the cause,  Bill will be playing piano outside and refreshments will be served!" McCandlish said. "Come by while you enjoy the night and all this great town has to provide. You will meet great people, pick up some cool items and help a group to continue making this world of ours a more beautiful, sustainable place. Make plans to drop by and say hello!"

McCandlish said merchants and restaurants are raising awareness and money for the Friends of Hammonasset, a "not for profit" 501(c)(3) volunteer organization, that works in cooperation with State and local park management and the Friends of Connecticut State parks. Their purpose is to provide environmental education, preserve the integrity of the park’s natural resources, and serve as an advocate for the park.

The event, sponsored by, , , The Source and , runs from 5:30-8:30pm and will span both the north and south sides of Rt. 1, as well as Wall Street and Station Square.
