Middlesex Driving Academy Opening In Nearby Durham

Caroline Mormile is the driving force behind Durham's newest business.

This weekend, Mormile will open Middlesex Driving Academy at 350 Main Street, a driving school where students from around the area can learn the rules of the road, inside and outside of a classroom.

"It's a privilege and a huge responsibility," says Mormile, who now lives in Middlefield after spending 14 years in Durham.

"One thing about Durham and Middlefield, it is definitely a socially responsible, family centric community. I knew that the parents would embrace us," she says.

MDA will offer a modern approach to driving school, which includes using the latest technology to track student's progress as they work towards getting their driver's license.

"What I'm going to be doing is making it easy for kids and parents," says Mormile, who was inspired to open the business by her two children who are nearing driving age.

"I've been a stay at home mom for many many years. I really wanted to bring a business to town and I wanted it to be something that connected business with my family," she says.

On Saturday, Mormile is hosting an open house from noon to 6 p.m., where new drivers can sign up for MDA's $399 Driver's Ed special (regularly $525) which includes 30 hours of classroom instruction and eight hours of behind the wheel instruction. Food and drinks will be served.

Mormile says MDA's class schedule is designed to be both convenient and flexible for students and parents. While students of any age are welcome to register, courtesy transportation can be arranged from Coginchaug High School.
