Metro-North’s Special Christmas/New Year's Holiday Service

Our special Christmas/New Year's holiday service will have you shouting, "Ho, ho, ho, take that!" as you go merrily about your way zipping past traffic and tolls while avoiding high gas prices and parking fees. (It's like Santa lent you his flying reindeer and sled!)

To get you in the holiday mood, we are providing extra early getaway service on Friday, December 21, with trains departing Grand Central starting around 12 noon. (Because of light ridership in the PM period, some trains may be canceled or combined. See a current timetable for train times or visit our schedules page.)

Since the holidays will almost be upon us, any of you last minute “gift-givers” will want to take advantage of our “Shoppers’ Special” service on Saturday, December 22 and Sunday, December 23.

On Christmas Eve, Monday, December 24, we will operate a Saturday schedule with extra service in the AM and PM peak periods. (Helpful holiday tip: you really shouldn’t wait until this day to finish your shopping. On Christmas Day, Tuesday, December 25 we will operate a special holiday schedule. (See a special Holiday Timetable or visit our schedules page.)

For those of you planning to head to town with the family to soak up some holiday spirit (like a human rum cake), we offer plenty of extra service during the day from December 26-28. (See a current timetable for train times or visit our schedules page.) If you are just heading back to work (hey, someone has to) we haven’t forgotten about you: There’s plenty of service to get you to and from the office. (Say hello to Scrooge for us!)

If you are traveling with the family, may we suggest purchasing an off-peak ten-trip ticket! In addition to the discount, it is transferrable, so everyone can use it. (It really is like the gift that you can keep giving.)

On Friday, December 28, we start to gear up for New Year’s Eve. To make sure you get plenty of rest for the big night, we once again offer early getaway service. (See a current timetable or visit our schedules page.)

New Year’s Eve arrives on Monday, December 31. And to make sure you arrive wherever you need to be to ring in 2013, we will provide a Saturday schedule with extra service in the AM and PM peak periods, as well as additional inbound trains in the late afternoon/early evening, and our traditional post-midnight late night/early morning service to get you home safely. On New Year’s Day, Tuesday, January 1, we will once again operate a special Holiday Schedule. (See a Holiday Timetable for train times or visit our schedules page.)

A few resolutions you should make before New Year’s Eve: Buy your train tickets in advance, because gate collection is in effect in Grand Central and you will need a ticket to board your train.

Also, please refrain from bringing open containers of alcohol on our trains. (Consider the party officially over as you head for the Terminal.)
