From The Ashes Of Disaster ...

With many in town missing Village Pizza and the Madison Wine Shop, the town's Planning & Zoning Commission has scheduled a public hearing on construction of a new 2-story building at 734-738 8 Boston Post Road.

Madison Patch reader Nancy Faughnan asked "what's the deal with Village Pizza? Is it opening again?" Here's what we were able to find out:

The town's Planning & Zoning Commission has scheduled a public hearing at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17 to consider an application from Joseph A. and Gillian Hill to rebuild the building that housed two beloved Madison businesses, Village Pizza and the Madison Wine Shop at 734-738 Boston Post Road in the center of town.

The building was destroyed in an early morning fire in June. While the building was a total loss, further catastrophe was averted when the town's volunteer firefighters, with support from other fire departments, managed to contain the flames to the one building where it started.

First Selectman Fillmore McPherson and Madison Chamber of Commerce President Eileen Banisch said it is their understanding that the building, once complete, will once again house Village Pizza and Madison Wine Shop.

"It’s my understanding that the building is being rebuilt to house the same businesses as before: pizza and wine on the first floor, offices on the second," McPherson said Wednesday.

"That's what I heard too," Banisch said.

"It’s on the P&Z agenda for next Thursday," McPherson said. "They conceivably could start construction in a month or two" if all goes well with approvals.

The building owners said in June, right after the fire, that they planned to rebuild.

The public hearing is scheduled for 8 p.m. and the agenda for the meeting says that it will include a site plan review "for construction of new 2-story building with split use of restaurant and retail space on the first floor and office space on the second floor."

Also on the agenda is a coastal site plan review for 128 Island Avenue,Madison Beach Club, Inc. "for approval of a modification of a portion of an existing seawall."

The meeting will be held at Town Campus in meeting room (A) at 8 Campus Drive in Madison, CT.
