Coming Up In Madison: Learn About Trees, Night Hike, Mardi Gras Gala, Winter Wonder Ball, Madison Fashion Affair

And the first annual Madison Bed Race?!?!? May 18th! Save the date!

From the Madison Chamber of Commerce:

As we leave the holiday season behind, let's try not to complain TOO much about the cold and enjoy the beautiful area in which we live.  Take a walk at Hammonasset, attend an outdoor program at Bauer Park (see below) poke around in our great shops, take in a movie downtown or have a warm meal in one of our inviting restaurants.  Before you know it, we'll be complaining about the heat and humidity! (But THAT day can't get here soon enough!)

Learn how to to Identify Trees in Winter this Sunday, January 26 from 1 to 3pm, attend at Bauer Park, 257 Copse Road, Madison.

Learn the tricks of identifying trees in winter by their bark and growth form on a short walk on the Bauer Woodland Trail. In the classroom explore the beauty of their twigs and buds through the microscope. These intricate structures tell the story of a tree's past and foretell its burst into lush green life in the spring. This class will change how you see trees and connect you with their marvels.

An indoor-outdoor program for adults and high school students. $10. Registration required: www.madisonct.org/bauer/programs.htm  or in the Madison Beach & Recreation office at town campus.

Friday Night Star Gazing/Night Hike

Winter skies lack the haziness of summer and are crisp and clear.  Which makes it perfect for stargazing!  Join Ranger Russ Miller on Friday, January 31, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. at the Meigs Point Nature Center. Bring your scope or use ours and learn about the stars. If cloud cover restricts visibility, we will go on an owl prowl.  A Great Horned Owl and several Snowy Owls have been sighted in the park recently!

Led by Ranger Russ Miller.  Call 203.245.8743 for more information.
