“I am honored to have been accredited with the VA to help Veterans throughout the State of Connecticut,” said Cartier.  “I have a number of family members that are Veterans including my father, who served in the Air Force post Korea, my father-in-law, who served during Korean War and a Great Uncle, who served in WWII.  Our Veterans fought to ensure that we can enjoy our freedom and quality of life and by assisting them in pursuing benefits they are entitled to is my small way of saying thank you,” added Cartier.

To earn this accreditation is an extensive process, and one that requires having the right qualifications in character and legal practice. Accreditation is not the end of the qualification process either. Within the 12 months following accreditation, Attorney Cartier must take a CLE course, one that is approved by any state bar association and educate on at least the following issues: claims procedures, representation before VA, right to appeal, basic eligibility for VA benefits, disability compensation, dependency and indemnity compensation, and pension.  Then within 3 years of accreditation, Attorney Cartier will complete a further CLE course, and continue to take CLE courses every 2 years from then on. These additional courses will cover any topic related to veterans’ benefits law and procedure

There are a number of benefits that Veterans and their spouses are eligible for including Aid and Attendance, which provides a pension and assistance with nursing and health care costs in excess of $2,000 per month.  A War-Time Veteran with 90 days of active duty, 1 day beginning or ending during a period of War, are in an assisted living facility or are spending several hundred dollars a month or more on the cost of your health care, and meets income requirements may qualify for benefits under the VA Aid and Attendance Pension Program. A veterans and their family could potentially qualify for thousands of dollars a month in aid to help pay for long-term care costs. A surviving spouse of a War-Time Veteran may also apply. Only an estimated five percent of these potentially eligible veterans actually receive these benefits. This fact can be attributed to the complicated and frequently changing laws surrounding the rules and regulations. Attorney Cartier can assist these veterans in obtaining benefits, even after they are denied benefits or told that they do not meet the qualifications.

“Without expert advice, veterans can go through a lengthy process or even years of denials. Veterans can also be disqualified from receiving other important benefits, such as Medicaid,” states Cartier.  “We do not charge for an initial consultation and if in our opinion, the Veteran has a claim for benefits, the VA application is always prepared at no cost by our Firm,” she added.
