A Sound Choice Expands to Downtown

Branford business looks to empty storefront to expand existing offerings.

A will come to life again thanks to Branford’s Ken Johnson who has been running for more than a decade. This music guru will be opening a second business at 1122 Main St., in just about one month.

After 14 years in business in Branford, Johnson said it’s still surprising, the amount people who are just learning about his business on Route 1 and that’s why he’s excited about opening a shop in the center of town. With a more prominent presence on the Green at 1122 Main St., Johnson said he’s confident that his expansion shop will be successful despite the tough economic climate. Of his new shop, set to open mid-February, Johnson commented, “I know hundreds of people come in to town – I know it’s going to expand my business.”

Where A Sound Choice at 267 East Main St., specializes in music lessons and instrument repairs, the new 650-square-foot space will cater to the music connoisseur specializing in music-related gifts. From piano-key bracelets to musician biography art, Johnson is confident that his new store will offer much to downtown. Johnson said he will be carrying products that range in price from .99 cents to $199, but the majority of items will be under $39. While he plans to carry some of the same products he sells at his East Main Street shop like music stands, guitar strings and guitars, he’s the most excited to offer the music gifts. His staff, he added, will be educated musicians.

Two 32-inch by 20-inch neon lights placed in the windows will welcome customers to the new spot at 1122 Main St. “When people walk-in,” he said, “they are going to get it."

Keep and eye out for the brown paper to be peeled off the façade and let Johnson know what you think of the new space in the comments section here or A Sound Choice on Patch! Check back for updates on the business going in next door at 1120 Main St. – downtown is getting two wedding planners!

While I have only been in Ken's shop on a few occasions, I love how he always remembers my name and greets me like an old friend. He helped me to replace my damaged guitar and found me a great case for it too! I am happy to hear his business is growing and love that he will be right downtown! Good luck with the new store!

Ken has always been a great help to my son and I, when my son started playing the guitar, and needing various supplies, etc.. He is an extremely gracious and helpful man and we wish him all the best with his business expansion. Two enthusiastic thumbs up for A Sound Choice!
