Eagle Scout Project at Hammonasset State Park Offers New "Marsh" View

Life Scout Eric Marsh, of Troop 491 at the American Legion Hall in Madison, is congratulated for his work on this Eagle Service Project by Dan Esty, Commissioner of the DEEP of the State of Connecticut.  Eric received special recognition for his accomplishments by Mr. Esty at the Shoreline Greenway Trail's ribbon cutting ceremony on August 22nd at Hammonasset State Park.

Led by Eric, a group of volunteers and members of the Shoreline Greenway Trail, constructed a new "rest area" next the the park's entrance by the new SGT bridge.  The group cleared a totally overgrown area which resulted in a spectacular new view of the marsh. They built composite benches secured to concrete beds.  Landscaping and sign fabrication followed.

The project was funded by local friends, and businesses.  Eric also received a grant from The Madison Foundation.  Mr. Perry Rianhard of the Shoreline Greenway Trail served as Eric's Eagle Scout mentor.  Mrs. Virginia Raff of the Shoreline Greenway Trail and Park and Recreation Supervisor Jack Hine  of Hammonasset State Park provide the project, support and assistance. Special thanks to Chuck and Dennis at the Tuxis Lumber Company for their construction advice.
