Madison Lighting It Up Blue For Autism Awareness

April is National Autism Awareness Month, and Autism Speaks will kick off the celebrations with its national "Light It Up Blue" event on Monday, April 2, World Autism Awareness Day.

In support of autism awareness, local landmarks including Memorial Town Hall and several trees at the Madison town campus will be bathed in blue light Monday night, said state Rep. Noreen Kokoruda, who was coordinating Monday with the town's Facilities Director William McMinn.

In addition to Memorial Town Hall, and the trees at town campus, Kokoruda said there are plans to cast blue light on to some homes in the historic district, and other homes around town.

Everyone is invited to do the same. in Madison said they had about six 25 watt blue light bulbs available as of 1:30 p.m. Monday.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, about one in 88 children in the U.S. has autism.

The organization invites you to light it up blue and show your support for those affected by that statistic.

According to the Light It Up Blue website, blue lightbulbs can be purchased at Home Depot.
