It's Official! Town And School Budgets Pass!

It's official. Both the town and school budgets passed for the upcoming fiscal year.

The town budget passed by 1,476 to 852. The school budget passed by 1,519 to 826.

There are 13,521 electors in town, and 2,308 people voted in person, including 25 taxpayers. Total absentee ballots cast were 45, including 5 taxpayers. The turnout was about 17, higher than last year when it was about 11 percent, but not as high as 2010.

The Board of Finance is scheduled to meet Wednesday night to set the mil rate, which will determine how much residents have to pay in taxes.

Earlier story:

As a small crowd gathers in Madison Town Hall, unofficial results from the town referendum point to both the town and school budgets passing.

First Selectman Fillmore McPherson said the the unofficial results indicate that the town budget passed by about 1,450 to 800 and that the school budget passed by about 1,500 to 800.

That would indicate that the turnout was low, at about 10 to 15 percent of the eligible voters.
