He's Running Again!

First Selectman Fillmore McPherson announced Thursday that he will seek the Republican nomination to run again, for a third term.

Why?

"Because I so much enjoy serving the town of Madison," he said.

He cited numerous accomplishments during his first two terms including improvements in the police department, a reduction in legal expenses, the retention of the newly combined Madison-Guilford Probate court in Madison, the reorganization of the town's land use departments, a net reduction in employee head count due to department streamlining, changes to the town's retirement policy that will "remove uncertainty in our finances," and the successful management of three natural disasters including Hurricane Irene, Superstorm Sandy, and The Blizzard of 2013.

"I began my term in one of the worst economic climates known to our country. Yet Madison remains strong," he told a group of about two dozen supporters and town employees gathered in front of town hall Thursday afternoon. "We listened. We adjusted. And our last budget, passed juat this past week by a margin of nearly 2 to 1, maintains our services, rebuilds our town, and prepares for our future. All of this while keeping our solid financial structure, as epitomized by our triple A bond rating. I am proud to lead a town that has a higher rating than the United States government."
