   COLLEGE BOWL SUNDAY

A Kick-off to the College Application Process

Daniel Hand HS Hosts Extraordinary Seminar

On Sunday, October 28, 2012, 12:30 P.M. to 4:30 P.M.

Open to all Shoreline students and parents

The seventh annual, award winning, college-planning seminar, College Bowl Sunday—a kick off to the college application process, promises to provide plenty of pearls for parents and students seeking information on how to stay sane during the hunt for the right college.

If you’re still looking for secrets to discovering the right college and would like to remove some of the unnecessary stress from the process, get your calendar out and mark down Sunday, October 28, 2012, 1:00 P.M. to 4:30 P.M. at DHHS.   Some of the seminars include:

Testing, Testing…123 ~ Sam Rosensohn of College Planning Partnerships will offer his outstanding workshop on test-taking tips, study plans, and an overview of why colleges place so much weight on the test.

Getting to “The List ~ How can you get from 3,600 colleges to “the list” of schools that you will apply to?  This workshop will explore techniques for researching schools and how to cut through the barrage of marketing that swamps every junior’s mailbox.  Presenter:  Betsy Morgan of College Matters.

Q and A with the Deans ~ Join Smith College’s dean of admission Debra Shaver, as well as several other admission representatives, for an open forum.  Get all of your questions answered!

From Person to Paper ~ Regardless of where you are applying, the essay is a great opportunity to let your voice be heard.  But what are college admissions officers looking for?  Presenter: Jessie Hill of Yale University

Navigating Naviance ~ Join school counselor, Phyllis Annunziata, and director, Jean Baker, in the DHHS computer lab for a hands-on experience with our web-based program.  You will leave with a true understanding of the joys of technology and the college application process.

Great Colleges for the Mid-range student ~ Join former school counselor, Marcia Myhre, in an enlightening review of the “Hidden Gems” that are great fits for the “B/C” student.

Check out our website for a full listing of the seminars.

Sponsored by the DHHS PTO and the DHHS Guidance Department, we are requesting a donation of $25 per family.   All of the financial proceeds will go to the Madison Foundation Scholarship Fund and the DHHS PTO.   Registration materials will be available on our Daniel Hand website www.danielhand.org beginning October 5th.  For more information, please contact Jean Baker at 203-245-6360 or at bakerj@madison.k12.ct.us
