This Weekend: No Penguin Plunge! Daddy*, Daughter Dance; Bubblemania; A Beer Milkshake? Music And Movies

There's a guided meditation and tea on Sunday. And, also on Sunday, get started on Valentine's Day early with a party for the youngsters at R. J. Julia! While they are there, you can shop for your own sweetest day goodies.

If you have something planned for early Saturday, keep an eye on the weather and the roads. We could be getting some snow overnight Friday into Saturday morning, particularly in North Madison, Durham, Killingworth, and Middlefield. On Thursday, from 4 to 7:30 p.m., there will be a beer tasting at . Up this week: Unibroue Don de Diue, Unibroue La Fin du Monde, Unibroue La Maudite, and Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout. Chocolate? Did I read that right? Yup. "This is good for drinking after dinner or making a vanilla ice cream float." Or maybe a beer milkshake. I'll bet someday you will. Also at Madison Wine Shop, wine tastings on Friday and Saturday from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Can't make it to the store? They now deliver in deliver for no extra charge in New Haven, Middlesex, and New London counties. Appropriate minimums apply.

On Friday night (not Saturday!!!) Casey Carle and Bubblemania will hit Madison at 7 p.m. Science + fun! What's not to like about that? Read all about it in our calendar.

Back by popular demand! On Friday night and Saturday night, there is another chance to see Oklahoma in Clinton! . 

The 4th Annual Coginchaug Valley Educational Foundation will be held Friday night at 7 p.m. at Coginchaug High School. In addition to competing in spelling swarms, the three member spelling teams compete for awards including: Best Team Name, Team with the Most Spirit, Most Entertaining Team, and Most Original Team.

The Penguin Plunge originally scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 11, has been rescheduled to Saturday, Feb. 18 (due to the forecast)! It will start next Saturday at 10 a.m. at Hammonasset Beach State Park. Watch as hundreds of brave souls will plunge into frigid waters to benefit over 6,400 Special Olympics Connecticut athletes, or jump right in!

Since you can never have enough chocolate, consider stopping by Killingworth Congregational Church on Saturday as they celebrate Valentine's Day early with a chocolate fountain (with "lots of goodies" in it), cakes, candy, mousse, eclairs, chocolate dipped fruit and peanut butter cups handmade by church volunteers. Tickets for the are $10 for adults, $5 for children 7 and under and are available at the door. Once you're inside it's all you can eat. Seriously. Take-out, packaged baked goods, and Valentine gifts will be sold as well. Saturday from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. inside the Old Town Hall (behind the church), 273 Route 81, Killingworth.

Also on Saturday, there will be a at the . If Daddy isn't free Saturday, your daughter can invite grandpa, her uncle, brother, or another special person in her life as long as he is over 18. There will be two sessions, for different age groups, with the first one starting at 5 p.m. Buy your tickets early, they will not be sold at the door! You can get tickets online here.

After all that fun and chocolate, Sunday will be a good time to settle down and refocus before the start of the week. Sound good? Check out the guided meditation and tea at Inner Strength Yoga, 32 Wall Street in Madison. BYO cardigan and socks. $16 at the door. Drop-ins welcome. At 12 p.m.

Also on Sunday, R. J. Julia will be celebrating Valentine's Day early. The event at 2 p.m. is for youngsters, and requires advanced registration, but parents will find plenty to do in the store as it's stocked with all kinds of goodies to give your loved one, and yourself, for that sweetest day coming up.
