This Weekend: Madison's Mike Clifford At Ballou's, Winter Walk, Magical Night Of Music, The Kate, And Movies Too

Remember that nice, new 2012 calendar you got for Christmas? Yeah, well it’s time to dig it out from under the tree. Say goodbye to those clean white squares because there’s plenty going on this weekend. And, well, if you’re still without a calendar, at least you’ll be able to get one on sale now! .

So grab a pen and start scheduling—here’s what’s going on this weekend:

GATEHOUSE BAND AT DONAHUE'S

WHERE/WHEN: , 1320 Boston Post Road, Madison. Thursday night, 9:30 p.m.

WHY GO: Because who doesn't love classic rhythm and blues? And why wait for Friday to start the weekend? In addition to the great music, there is food and a fun bar scene.

PRICING: No charge!

 

WHERE/WHEN: Thursday at 7 p.m. at Clinton Town Hall.

WHY GO: If you love Broadway tunes, you’ll love this concert.

PRICING: Admission is by donation. The proceeds collected will benefit The Backstage Players’ February performance of “Oklahoma.”

WHERE/WHEN: For the last time this season, outdoors at Academy Street School grounds at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Also, on Sunday at 10:30 a.m., at the Shoreline Unitarian Universalist Church, a discussion about the movement.

WHY GO: To find out more about this movement and talk with your friends and neighbors about social justice, and whether movements like Occupy Madison, Occupy Shoreline, and Occupy Wall Street can help when it comes to effecting social change.

PRICING: No charge.

WHERE/WHEN: Connecticut Forest and Park Association at 16 Meriden Road in Rockfall, CT on Saturday, Jan. 7 beginning at 10:00 a.m. for Winter Trails Day. Rockfall is a village in nearby Middlefield, CT.

WHY GO: Learn about snowshoes (might come in handy if we ever get any snow), outdoor activities, listen to stories around the campfire and engage Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Commissioner Daniel C. Esty in conversation about energy and the environment.

PRICING: No charge.

VISHTEN CONCERT

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday at 7 p.m. at the North Madison Congregational Church.

WHY GO: Music and Ashley’s Ice Cream after? Win, win. Can’t make the concert? There’s a free fiddling and dancing workshop at 2 p.m.

PRICING: Tickets are $20 for adults, $5 for kids in high school and under. Reserved seating is sold out, but there will be limited day-of-show seating.

ESSEX WINTER SERIES

WHERE/WHEN: Concert will be held on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Valley Regional High School in Deep River.

WHY GO: Know that world-renowned mezzo-soprano gal named Frederica von Stade? Yeah, she’ll be there.

PRICING: Tickets are $30 for adults, $25 for seniors and $12 for students and children.
