This Weekend: Scarecrows, Fright Train, Used Book Buy Back

Don't miss the fall bird walk at Hammonasset, A Harvest of Quilts at Morgan and the Halloween Festival at Parmelee Farms and more!

Just as the work week winds down and you have a second to breathe, here we are with plans to tie up all your weekend time. We agree that there are pumpkins to be carved and costumes figure out, but that won’t take up too much time! We’ve put together a list of local happenings for the weekend, but be sure to check back on Friday for the lowdown on all things Halloween!

Shop, dine and leave the kids at the library! Enjoy a night out in downtown Madison on Thursday, Oct. 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. Fifty percent of all proceeds from Sea, Shop, Scare will benefit the Scranton Library. Kids will enjoy crafts, stories and refreshments at the library. Registration is encouraged. Children 5 and up are invited.

TAKE A RIDE ON THE FRIGHT TRAIN

WHERE/WHEN: Friday, Saturday and Sunday of this weekend. Departures are at 6:30 and 8 p.m. from the Essex Steam Train.

WHY GO: Mingling with ghosts on a haunted train? Ride only if you dare…

PRICING: Tickets are $20 each. Ride is recommended for ages 8 and up.

WHERE/WHEN: Walks are held Saturdays at 8 a.m. through Nov. 19. Meet at The Audubon Shop at 7:50 a.m.

WHY GO: Get in touch with nature! And stay on your feet to burn off some of that candy corn you’ve been snacking on.

PRICING: Fee is $4 per person. Binocular rentals are available.

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at .

WHY GO: All things quilting! Don’t miss the lecture from quilt historian Sue Reich.

PRICING: Admission is $6.

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

WHY GO: You’ll make some room on your bookshelf for some new reads!

PRICING: Follow directions online to determine which books have buyback value and then bring them to the store this weekend!

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Parmelee Farms in Killingworth.

WHY GO: Costumes and pumpkin carving contests, hayrides, a fortune teller and more!

PRICING: A $7 donation per family is suggested.

 

Still need more to keep busy? Here are some ideas:

: Pick up some roses for someone special! You know you’ll be there buying apple cider and donuts, anyway. Sale runs Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

: Don’t miss this if you have an upcoming wedding or prom to attend! Sale will run Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

: All are welcome to stop by on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. for food, music and shopping, of course!

: Yum! Stop in from 8 to 11 a.m. on Sunday morning. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for kids under 12.
