Photo Gallery: Art Exhibit Paints Connecticut Summer

23 Artists Showing At Susan Powell Gallery

Susan Powell said the artists being shown in "Summer in CT", which runs through September 30, are an exclusive crowd.

"I've known them for about eight years," she said of the the 23 artists in the show. "I just went to their studios and picked out what I liked."

Powell said the pool of artists live nearby and, or paint landscapes familiar to Connecticut regulars.

Artist Cora Ogden, of Killingworth, said she went to the Leetes Island and knocked on doors until she got permission to "Morning Haze" and "Summer Morning, Incoming Tide."

"I was just swept away by the the light and beauty there," she said of the island.

Ogden said the three plein air paintings made in that many days in the beginning of July "were very compliant, they wanted to be put on canvas."

The show opened July 29 and features work by Roxann Leibenhaut, Kathy Anderson, Peter Bergeron, Karen Blackwood, Lou Bonamarte, Deborah Chabrian, Susan Jositas, Jim Magner, Edward Martinez, Leonard Mizerek, Cora Ogden, Yves Parent, Kimberly Ruggiero, Dennis Sheehan, Elizab eth L. Strazzulla, Sally Swatland, Sadie Valeri, George Van Hook, and Carolyn Walton.
