Must The Winter Come So Soon?

This year, yes. And Madison Lyric Stage will celebrate that Friday 7:30 p.m. at North Madison Congregational Church at the traffic circle in North Madison. And Madison Beach Hotel is having a Harvest Festival Sunday at 1 p.m.

 

Editor's note: This year the winter solstice is Dec. 21, the earliest winter since 1869. We might as well celebrate.

Madison Lyric Stage will have a Harvest Concert Friday, Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m. Madison Beach Hotel will have its Harvest Festival Sunday, Oct. 28th at 1 p.m., with a pet costume contest at 3 p.m.

Building on the success of our summer concerts (Sondheim in the Barn and Bella Italia!), Madison Lyric Stage has announced plans for a Harvest Concert.   Must The Winter Come So Soon? will be held on Friday, October 26 at 7:30 p.m. at the North Madison Congregational Church located at 1271 Durham Road in Madison, CT.

The evening will feature selections by leading 20th century composers, including Samuel Barber, Leonard Bernstein and Aaron Copland.  Readings of The Headless Horseman by Jack Prelutsky and The Harvest Moon by Ted Hughes will also be presented.

Suggested donation is $20.

The evening is sponsored by Liana’s Table. The cast will feature tenor Marc Deaton, artists Barbara Hentschel and John Johmann, who all performed in the summer concert series.  Accomplished pianist, Michael Fennelly, who played for the Bella Italia event, will once again lend his support at the piano.  Appearing with Madison Lyric Stage for the first time with this concert is soprano Megan Weston.

Based in New York, Weston has sung with numerous opera companies and symphonies, including San Diego Opera, Tulsa Opera, Utah Opera, Philadelphia Opera, San Diego Symphony, New Haven Symphony, and the Caramoor International Music Festival, among many others. A variety of harvest treats from Liana’s Table, including holiday tarts and and hot apple cider will be available for sale, and special orders for holiday treats will be taken at the performance. Madison Beach Hotel Hosts

1st Annual Fall Harvest Festival

Enjoy a family-friendly afternoon of traditional fall delicacies, live music, local vendors, craft beers & Halloween pet costume contest!

WHAT:  On Sunday, October 28th Madison Beach Hotel will host its 1st annual Fall Harvest Festival. The event will kick off with a traditional oompa band playing live music and a variety of craft beer available.  There will also be face painting provided by the Daniel Hand of Madison Student Council, an alpaca petting zoo, cookie making and decorating contest, local artisan booths including jewelry making for children and teens. Mad Hill Peppers will be bringing their local, organic peppers for all to try. 

Madison Beach Hotel Executive Chef John Cortesi and Sous Chef Brendon Dion will prepare traditional fall delicacies, including roasted birds, sausages, bratwurst and chili. 

In the spirit of Halloween, The Madison Beach Hotel is also organizing a Pet Costume Contest and encouraging the public to bring their pet dressed in their most adorable attire. Lucky winner of most original costume will get a $25 gift certificate to The Wharf restaurant and a $25 gift certificate to Petco.
