Illustrators And Painters Included In Show at Susan Powell Art Gallery

Until The End Of January, The Susan Powell Art Gallery Will Show Works By Grace DeVito, Vincent Giarrano And Sadie Valeri, Among Others.

The Susan Powell Fine Art Gallery in Madison shows pieces by artists from places that include Connecticut, New York City, Colorado and Memphis.  Currently, the gallery is displaying pieces for a show that runs through the end of January.  Among an impressive list of artists are Grace DeVito, Vincent Giarrano and Sadie Valeri.

DeVito "is a classically trained [artist], well known for portraits," according to gallery owner Susan Powell.  DeVito is from Connecticut, and attended the School of Visual Arts in New York.  She also studied at the Art Students League.   Her career as an illustrator began with the United Nations Postal Administration, the Franklin Mint and Ford.  Along the walls of the Susan Powell Fine Art Gallery, her paintings "Tempus Fugit" and "Pink Frosted" draw the eye with stunning treatment of light.

Giarrano is a Connecticut painter as well.  His paintings focus on naturalism and can include still lifes, figures and landscapes.  Born in New York, Giarrano received a BFA from the State University of New York and his Masters from Syracuse University.  Before moving to Connecticut, he worked as an illustrator in New York City.  Visitors to the Susan Powell Fine Art Gallery might find themselves drawn to "Opening Shop," "Offerings," and "White Roses" among Giarrano's other pieces.

Valeri lives and paints out of San Fransisco, Calif. though she was born and raised in Salem, Mass.  After earning her BFA in Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design, she traveled through Western Europe.  Such trips have contributed largely to her artistic development.  She offers private workshops and classes, and has taught graduate students at the Academy of Art University in San Fransisco.  Among her unique and captivating compositions at the Susan Powell Fine Art Gallery are "Friends of a Feather," "The Wave," and "Message in a Bottle."

The show has thus far been a success.  Powell said that during the reception, "[roughly] fifty people attended and there were four sales."  The show will remain up through January 31 at Powell's gallery on Main Street.  Some of the artists' works are also on display at the R.J. Cafe, also on Main Street.  While not all of the artists currently showing share a background in illustration, Giarrano, DeVito and Valeri show that artists need not be hampered by only one medium.
