Get Out: Five Great Things To Do This Weekend

Because It's No Fun To Stay Home All Weekend

Take a deep breath and relax—the weekend is just about here. Forget about that big cup of coffee you spilled on the way to work. Don’t worry that the kids missed the bus a couple times this week. These things don’t matter on the weekend! But here are a few things that do matter—The Big E, the Guilford Fair and the Garlic Festival, just to name a few. So let loose and have a little fun this weekend because there will be plenty of coffee to spill and busses to miss next week!

1. THE BIG E

WHERE/WHEN: Gates open at 8 a.m. on Friday; most exhibits open at 10 a.m. Fair runs through Oct. 2. Fairgrounds are in West Springfield, Mass.

WHY GO: Live entertainment, agriculture, rides, exhibits and enough fair food to pop your belt buckle.

PRICING: Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for kids 6 to 12 and free for kids 5 and under.

WHERE/WHEN: Friday from 1 to 11 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Guilford Fairgrounds on Lovers Lane.

WHY GO: Check out all your fair favorites—plus country star James Wesley hits the stage Saturday night.

PRICING: Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $5 for kids 6 to 11 and free for kids 5 and under. Parking at the Fairgrounds is $5. Free parking and shuttles will be available from exit 57.

WHERE/WHEN: Musical performances are on Friday from 7 to 11 p.m. and Saturday from 3 to 11 p.m. at the Hygienic Art Park.

WHY GO: You know you’ve been waiting for an excuse to break out those cowboy boots…

PRICING: Admission is $10 per night or $15 for the weekend.

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Olde Mistick Village.

WHY GO: All things garlic! We suggest bringing some gum for later.

PRICING: Free and open to the public.

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. at The Kate in Old Saybrook.

WHY GO: Don’t miss this modern performance! And definitely don’t forget to wear pink.
