Get Out: Five Great Things To Do This Weekend

Because It's No Fun To Stay Home All Weekend

It’s just about time to turn those calendar pages to March—but before you do, make the most of your last February weekend! Patch has some great ideas to make this weekend a fun-filled, memorable one. Get to it!

1. LIVE MUSIC AT DONAHUE’S

WHERE/WHEN: Donahue’s Madison Beach Grille Thursday at 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday at 9:30 p.m.

WHY GO: Mike Clifford plays Thursday, The Bernadettes on Friday and Prime Time on Saturday.

2. 

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday and Sunday at Lyman Orchards in Middlefield.

WHY GO: Events include ice carving, tons of Apple Barrel samples and an assortment of food offerings, horse-drawn wagon rides, tree pruning and dog sledding demonstrations!

PRICING: You know you’re going to want to eat there—lots. Sugar-on-snow, apple-cider hotdogs, hot spiced cider and more will be on hand. Come hungry!

3. 

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Olde Mistick Village in Mystic.

WHY GO: Chowder, chowder and more chowder! Proceeds benefit the Emergency Food Pantry at the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center. Plus, there’s plenty of free family activities to keep the kids occupied!

PRICING: Events are free. Chowder samples are $1 each, $5 for 7 or $10 for 15.

4. JAZZ NIGHTOUT

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at The Ivoryton Playhouse in Ivoryton.

WHY GO: These jazz legends are sure to put on an impressive show. And as if the music wasn’t enough, the night also features appetizers, wine bar and dessert.

PRICING: Tickets are $30 for adults, $25 for seniors, $20 for students and $10 for children 12 and under. Balcony seats are $20; children $10.

5. OSCAR NIGHT BENEFIT PARTY

WHERE/WHEN: Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at The Kate in Old Saybrook.

WHY GO: Dress code is “Hollywood Cocktail Attire.” Bet you don’t get to dress like that very often, huh? The event proceeds help the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center.

PRICING: Tickets are $75 each, but $40 of the cost is tax-deductible.
