Get Out: Five Great Things To Do This Weekend

Because It's No Fun To Stay Home All Weekend

Summer has arrived! OK, well maybe not officially, but we’ll let this one slide. Keep on rockin’ those shades, shorts and sandals and leave your backyard behind because you’re going out this weekend. Sorry to be bossy, but come on—the Strawberry Jazz Festival, Autism Walk, and tons of other outdoor activities are happening this weekend. Your overgrown lawn can wait a couple days.

1. POTTED GARDEN TOUR

WHERE/WHEN: Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Self-guided tours begin at Essex Library’s welcome tent.

WHY GO: Soak up some almost-summer sun while strolling the village main streets of Essex, Centerbrook and Ivoryton. Take a timeout and stop by one of the special garden talks!

2. 

WHERE/WHEN: Friday at 8 p.m. at Andrews Memorial Town Hall.

WHY GO: Kick off the weekend and support community music, too!

PRICING: Tickets are $10 each.

3. CONNECTICUT TRAILS DAY CELEBRATION 2011

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday and Sunday all over Connecticut!

WHY GO: There are 190 events going on state-wide, so lace up those sneakers and hiking boots!

PRICING: Most events are free. Check town-by-town listing for details.

4. 

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Madison green.

WHY GO: Mmm, strawberries and jazz. Sounds delicious.

PRICING: Free.

5. 

WHERE/WHEN: Walk begins Sunday at 10 a.m. at Rentschler Field in East Hartford. Registration is from 8:30 to 10 a.m.

WHY GO: You’ll feel good inside and out for supporting Autism Speaks.

PRICING: No fee to walk, but don’t forget to fundraise!
