Because It's No Fun To Stay Home All Weekend

This Sunday is Mother’s Day! Yep, that came up quickly. We tip our hat to those who have written their cards, planned a Sunday brunch and picked up a little something for Mom. But for the rest of you still tangled up in Easter grass, get moving! Lucky for you stragglers, we have some great ideas here—so good she won’t even know you waited until the last minute!

WHERE/WHEN: Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the shops on Chapel Street in downtown New Haven.

2. FARMER'S MARKET ON MADISON'S TOWN GREEN

WHERE/WHEN: Friday, 3 to 6 p.m.

WHY GO? Connecticut grown produce, flowers, meats, fish & natural products, and gifts for Mother's Day.

PRICING? Varies according to the item.

3. GARDENER’S MARKET

WHERE/WHEN: Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Old Saybrook town green.

WHY GO: Between the market’s plant sale, tag sale and assortment of baked treats, you’ll be sure to find something for mom!

PRICING: The profits from the market will benefit the Old Saybrook Garden Club.

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday on the Madison town green starting at 10 a.m.

WHY GO: Live build, “Best of the Nest” birdhouse art auction, live entertainment and an evening discussion panel. Need more?

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday at 10 a.m.at the Owenego Inn in Branford.

WHY GO: Trot, jog, skip or stroll along the Sound, get some great exercise and support the Community Dining room, too!

PRICING: $20 for individuals and $40 for families on race day.

WHERE/WHEN: Bill Miller’s Castle in Branford on Sunday. Seating times are 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.

WHY GO: Remember last year’s bad attempt at homemade waffles? Mom deserves more than an Eggo on Mother’s Day.
