The Swan Knight

Madison Lyric Stage, a new performing arts company based on the Connecticut shoreline, will present the world premiere staged version of The Swan Knight by Glen Cortese with libretto by Marc Deaton on Sunday, March 11 at 4:00 p.m. at the Off Broadway Theater on the Yale campus in New Haven. This musical mono-drama for tenor, piano quintet and film is performed by tenor, Marc Deaton, the Oneiros Quartet and pianist Lucas Wong.  The sung drama narrates the troubled journey of a young boy facing harrowing challenges and abuses. Finding solace in his imaginary world of knights, heroes, and swans, he develops into manhood and comes to terms with what he has experienced.

The Swan Knight was first performed in a concert version in New York at St. John the Divine in 2006, and then at the Kaye Playhouse in 2007. Now with the addition of this jarring and insightful film, it will now be presented to a Connecticut audience for its world premiere staged version. A trailer for The Swan Knight can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yk91LLlbz3k.

The performance will also feature a live performance of Tennessee William’s one act play Talk To Me Like The Rain And Let Me Listen, a searing two- person window into the harshness of the human condition starring Barbara Hentschel and John Johmann.
