Holiday Inspirations

Holiday Inspirations

Susan Powell Fine Art in Madison, CT, has an annual holiday show featuring new works by 25 contemporary artists including Kathy Anderson, Del-Bourree Bach, Peter Bergeron, Stephanie Birdsall, Karen Blackwood, Dan Brown, Grace M. DeVito, David Dunlop, Dean Fisher, Sandy Garvin, Vincent Giarrano, Susan Jositas, Roxann Leibenhaut, Jim Magner, Barbara Maiser, Leonard Mizerek, Richard Murdock, Susan Nally, Michael Naples, Cora Ogden, Juan Jr Ramirez, John Smith, Elizabeth L. Strazzulla, Sally Swatland, and Sadie J. Valeri continuing through January 31st.

Holiday Inspirations showcases the artists’ personal choice of favorite works and includes Contemporary Realism, New York City Scenes and trompe l’oeil. “The paintings possess something beyond just the depiction of the objects and places, “says Susan Powell, owner of the gallery. The show is rich in oils that have a narrative aspect. There’s a mystery in Sadie’s elegant still lifes with translucent wax paper. Dan Brown's trompe l'oeil "I hate to think of Going Home," with old postcards, salt water taffy and shells from Madison recalls fond summers at the shore. You can hear the cacophony of people coming and going in Dunlop’s atmospheric oils of New York City’s bustling Grand Central Station. Crackling cellophane in Cora Ogden’s “Wrapped Apples” is an image that has sound and reminds us of the joys of unwrapping presents.
