"We Must Never Forget" (With Video)

Candlelight Vigil Held for POW/MIA Recognition Day; Governor Dannel Malloy designates the third Friday of September every year POW/MIA Recognition Day in the State of Connecticut.

“Prisoners of War and Missing in Action people have no bearing on race, creed, color or gender.  It has everything to do with being an American,” said Ted Aub, Connecticut State Coordinator of the National League of POW/MIA Families.  “Today and every day while our people are not on our soil we need to honor the ultimate sacrifice they gave for our freedom,” he added.

He joined Doc Swanson from the Madison VFW, many veterans, residents and politicians in announcing that Governor Dannel Malloy signed a proclamation Friday designating the third Friday of September every year POW/MIA Recognition Day in the State of Connecticut.

During the candlelight vigil on the Madison Green, the Honor Guard from Madison's Griswold Post 79 Legion presented the colors, The Rev. Dr. Christopher Nichols led the group in prayer, Dottie Simonides and Alexa Patrick performed patriotic songs and First Selectman Filmore McPherson and State Representative Edward Meyer addressed the gathering.

Aub reminded those in attendance that there are approximately 1,683 individuals unaccounted for from the Southeast Asian conflict, about 8,000 from the Korean War and as many as 78,000 Americans from World War II.

“We must never forget,” said Aub.  “Our mission is to bring every one home to our soil.”
