On Saturday morning we were huffing and puffing up 6 miles of hills in the Colorado mountains on Peak to Peak Highway (sounds a little scary) towards Ward. There was hardly a car on the road and the morning was crisp. Perfect riding conditions.
We felt good, having gotten a great nights sleep and a good cup of coffee at the campsite before heading out. About three miles into our climb, we saw a man walking his dog. As we passed him, slowly, he asked where we were headed.
This is a tough question to answer in a short amount of time, so we gave the short answer. "Boulder!" I exclaimed, barely able to contain my excitement of seeing my dad once we made it to town.

In fact, we were going exactly the way we wanted to go. We just weren't going the way one might drive a car to Boulder. Instead of taking busy highway 36, we did what we often do and find the quiet backroads to enjoy the scenery. This isn't the first time we've been told we were going the wrong way and it probably won't be the last.
But if you look at our destination as being Hawaii, well then we've been going the wrong way since we left San Diego seven months ago.
Our destination isn't Hawaii, it can't be.
My dad has this shirt saying, The Journey is the Destination and that is exactly how we've lived this year. When we made it to Ward, we met another cyclist enjoying a freshly baked cookie from the lonely corner store who told us we had 20 miles of purely downhill until the road dumped us into Boulder.
After enjoying our 8:30am chocolate chip cookies and getting back on the bikes, I thought to myself, this is exactly the way I want to go!
