4TH ANNUAL PITCHING FOR CHARITY

Event Supports Neighbor 2 Neighbor and Madison Food Pantry

 Pitching for Charity, the annual event that raises money for Neighbor 2 Neighbor and the Madison Food Pantry, has been thrown a curve ball but is kicking back and planning an old-fashion game of kickball in place of the traditional softball game.

The 4th Annual Pitching for Charity will be held Aug. 10 at the Surf Club in Madison.  

This year's event will feature an action-packed kickball game pitting firefighters from Madison Hose Co. No. 1 against a team comprised of realtors  from Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, Page Taft, Prudential CT, William Raveis and William Pitt Sotheby's International and members of the Madison Chamber of Commerce.

The game format was changed due to softball field repairs underway at the Surf Club.

The teams are dusting off their sneakers and getting ready to hit the practice field to be sure they are in top form for the big event. Tickets are $3 and are available at any of the real estate offices and the Chamber of Commerce. Tickets must be shown at the Surf Club gate for admission. Game time is 11 a.m. Food will be available at the concession.

Ticket holders are asked to bring non perishable food items and personal care items to help stuff the truck for Neighbor 2 Neighbor and the Madison Food Pantry.

Pitching for Charity has  raised more than $40,000 for Neighbor 2 Neighbor and the Madison Food Pantry.

The day-long event will feature an action packed, fun-filled game of kickball, along with a picnic, silent and live auction, door prizes, a dunk tank, and fun and games for young children. 

In 2012, the Food Pantry distributed more than 129,000 lbs of food and almost 100,000 meals to residents in need. The food pantry is open on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.at Orchard Park Road and Mungertown Road. Donations are accepted during the food pantry's operating hours and also on Tuesdays from 2 to 4 p.m.; items can be dropped off year-round at Stop & Shop and at Paul Beckman/William Raveis Real Estate, 869 Boston Post Road. Neighbor to Neighbor (N2N) provides personal items not covered by food stamps to the Food Pantry. These items are distributed by volunteers to elderly and disabled residents who are unable to get to the Food Pantry. N2N maintains a Camp Scholarship Program that helps qualifying Madison families send their children to camp. The group also supports and Emergency Fund that provides assistance to Madison families facing a financial crisis when there is nowhere else to turn for help. N2N works with Madison Youth and Family Services and provides fuel assistance.  N2N helps more than 50 families annually.
