Posters For Lost Dog, Torn Up, Removed

Why?

The heartbroken owners of a lost dog named Chip put up four large posters around town, in an effort to find their dog, who is sick and needs medication. And then the posters were torn down. To some observers, it looked as though they were vandalized in the middle of the night sometime this weekend.

"The owner of the lost dog Chip put up four large posters that were vandalized last night ... The owner is heartbroken and the unfeeling attitude of whoever did this is  unacceptable" Madison Patch reader Pat Nelson wrote to us in an email Sunday.

Nelson said there were two signs on Route 79 heading south, one at Bradley and Wall, and one in front of the library. Another was put up Sunday at the bus stop at Samson Rock park.

Were these taken down for a reason? Were they placed inappropriately?

We checked with Madison First Selectman Fillmore McPherson and he said it was "absolutely not the town."

So, was is just some rude, thoughtless act of vandalism? In the absence of any communication about why it was done, it does seem rude and thoughtless. If someone had a valid objection to these signs, a simple phone call would have gone a long way towards helping these dog owners acheive their objective. The phone number was clearly posted on the sign. If it was done for a reason, let us know so the owner can replace them with signs that are appropriate.

If it was done out of malice or for sport, shame on whoever did it.

If anyone knows, let us know. People put up these kinds of signs all the time in town, sometimes they result in the animal being returned.

Here is the information about the lost dog. Let us know if you know anything about his disappearance.
