Oh Christmas Tree ... Oh [No!] Christmas Tree!

After serving the town faithfully for many, many years, the town's Christmas tree succumbed to recent bad weather and is being removed. But there's good news too ...

 

The Christmas tree on the Madison town green has served the town well for many, many years. 

But town officials say that the recent bad weather, including the Blizzard of 2013, has taken its toll. Many tree limbs and branches were broken off the tree, leaving huge gaps.

"The tree has seen better days, by a long shot," First Selectman Fillmore McPherson mournfully delcared at a recent Board of Selectmen meeting. "It looks like it has to come down." 

But there is good news, he said.

"A group of citizens has offered to take it down, remove the stump, and plant a new Christmas tree," he said. "At some point in the near future they will be coming forward" with a plan.
