Madison Resident Wins Powerball, Then Helps Stock Food Pantry!

"This is mind blowing," Michael Carroll repeatedly said to Lottery officials.

This information was provided by CT Lottery:

Michael Carroll of Madison arrived at CT Lottery Headquarters in Rocky Hill last week to claim the $2,000,000 Powerball with Power Play prize for the May 25, 2013 drawing.  “This is mind blowing,” Carroll repeatedly said to Lottery officials.

The winning Powerball numbers drawn on May 25 were 2 - 6 - 19 - 21 - 27, Powerball number 25.  Carroll picked his own numbers to play, matching all five of the winning numbers, but missed the Powerball number.  Since Carroll added the Power Play feature to his ticket for an extra $1 at the time of purchase, his $1,000,000 prize was automatically doubled to an amazing $2,000,000 win.

In total, 10,130 winning Powerball tickets were sold statewide for that date, with prizes ranging from $4 to $2,000,000.

Carroll discovered he was holding the $2,000,000 prize winning ticket after checking his ticket in a lottery Ticket Checker.  “I kept scanning the ticket and saying, ‘That’s a lot of zeros, more zeros than possible!’”

Carroll received a prize check for $1,366,001 (value after taxes).   “We are going to put some money into trust funds for our children, purchase a home and then pay it forward,” Carroll said.

Carroll purchased his winning ticket from Cumberland Farms #4618, located at 2090 Foxon Avenue, North Branford.  For selling the ticket, Cumberland Farms #4618 will receive a $1,000 bonus check from the CT Lottery.
