Can You Help Anna Get Her Wish? Jeffrey Elementary Did!

Anna Rogers' wish is for holiday letters to the National Believe Campaign. The students at Jeffrey Elementary have delivered theirs. Can you help? The deadline's Tuesday at 5p.m. It's easy! Print it out! Fill it in! Drop it off!

Anna Rogers, a 12-year-old from Madison, has been hospitalized more than 20 times and has already had to battle significant health problems during her short life.

But she doesn't let the fact that she has cystic fibrosis, a fatal genetic disease, keep her from leading an active life and making lots of friends. Her friends in Madison are helping her with a project that is important to her, collecting letters for the National Believe Campaign. For every letter that Anna collects, $1 will be donated the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

To help Anna, Madison mom Beth Crowley [who is also the Scranton Memorial Library librarian] and her children enlisted the help of Jeffrey Elementary School. Here is the note she wrote us:

Dear Pem,

I was touched by Robin's blog about Anna Rogers, the little girl with CF who swims at the Madison Racquet Club and is collecting letters for the Make A Wish Foundation. My cousin, who is now over 40, has battled CF all her life so, I wanted to help Anna realize her dream of paying forward her Make A Wish trip. I have two sons at Jeffrey Elementary School and I am the Room Parent for my older son's third grade class. I thought it would be a wonderful project for every child at Jeffrey to write a letter so Anna would have a huge pile to take to Macy's. Principal Kathryn Hart agreed and [Monday] around 3:00 p.m. I [delivered] a box of letters to the Raquet Club. I just thought you might like to know that the stories and blogs on Patch do make a difference. Thank you for bringing the story to my awareness.

Best,

Beth Crowley

The credit for bringing the story to Patch goes to Robin J. McShane and the Madison Racquet & Swim Club. Robin posted the blog earlier this month in an effort to enlist the community's help. The power of Madison Patch is likewise available to any member of the community, through our blogs, through our event postings and, as of later this month, through a variety of other tools that will be introduced. Our Patch is your Patch.

Do you want to help Anna? There still is a little time left. The deadline is Tuesday. Here is the information from the original blog post:

In the spirit of “paying it forward,” Anna is collecting Holiday Wish Letters in an effort to make a difference for other kids with life threatening diseases who will be granted a future wish.  As part of the National Believe Campaign, Macy's will donate $1 to the Make-a-Wish Foundation for every Holiday Wish letter it receives. Madison Racquet & Swim Club has teamed with Anna to spread the word and to help her collect letters.  A sample form letter can be downloaded from the Madison Racquet & Swim Club website or picked up at the club.  A collection box located in the Madison Racquet & Swim Club lobby will serve as a drop point and Anna will collect up the letters by December 11th.   Anna will take the letters with her to New York on December 14th to be counted. It only takes a minute to complete the letter and kids can wish for anything they want -- a toy, world peace, a cure for cancer, etc. The letters can be folded over and taped or stapled. Macy's doesn't read the letters, but volunteers count how many are received. This is a great way for kids to make a difference this holiday season and it's free!

And we hope Anna has a great time on the 14th, when she will have her wish fulfilled. Read Robin's original blog post to find out more.
