Believe It Or Not, We Wish We Were There

Irene Floods Colorado Emotions

Well, I guess I don't need to tell you this, but there's a pretty big hurricane coming through Madison probably as you're reading this. Most people would think we're lucky to be in Colorado.

We don't feel lucky.

And it's not because we've got an 11,900 foot climb today. We've been pedaling away from bad weather all year but this is the first time we've actually wanted to pedal towards it. While most people are wishing they could get away, Adam and I wish we could be there for family and friends.

True, we've been feeling a little homesick lately, but we just had a little piece of home for a few days when my dad came out to Boulder to see us. Those days were a blast, but it was tough knowing that 6 hours after he boarded his plane on Thursday, he was in CT and we were only 30 miles down the road in a campsite with the rain lulling us to sleep.

The feeling of wanting to go home didn't leave with him. In fact, that feeling has only grown knowing that our family and friends are going up against Irene.

It's a weird feeling being away from home for so long.

Life in Madison seems to have picked up this year and we've missed weddings, family reunions, engagements, record snow fall, house warming parties, new babies, and now Irene. Worry has set in and the feeling of helplessness has overpowered us.

Our parents are out there, our brothers are there, our grandparents, our friends. The news is doing a good job of hyping up the storm and there is nothing we can do for them...to help comfort, prepare, and clean up.

Adam started listing the people in our family that he wished he could be home to help... even if it was to just clear some limbs from trees that fell to the ground. It's a difficult feeling having family in a storm like this and being so many miles away. So we can't be there physically to help, but our thoughts are with you all and we hope you'll all stay safe, and comfort and take care of each other.
