One never knows where and when they will come across teddy bears. This Advent Season, the First Congregational Church of Madison is full of new toy teddy bears attending the various services, concerts, and events held there. They are there Sunday morning when the candles of hope, peace, love and joy are lit.

They have already gotten a little more stuffed at the annual Advent Breakfast and, yes, real teddy bears eat quiche.

Dec 6 was the formal Women’s League tea, and the teddy bears so enjoyed the warmth, friendships, and baked treats.

On the evening of Dec. 19 they will be part of the Worship on Wednesday Service of Celebration, humming along with the various Christmas carol requests.

And then there are the many concerts that take place in the Meetinghouse this time of the year: Shoreline Soul, ABC, Madison Cultural Arts, The Shoreline Ringers, and the New Haven Symphony Messiah.

As Christmas Eve approaches, the teddy bears will be taken to area nursing homes and shut-ins, sharing the peace, prayers, and love they have absorbed and providing company and comfort during the coming year.

Accompanying them will be cards created by the Sunday School classes, wishing the nursing home residents a Merry Christmas.

Donations of teddy bears are still being accepted, you can drop them off at the First Congregational Church, 26 Meetinghouse Lane, in Madison, CT anytime this week or on Sunday.
