18th CHRISTMAS IN CLINTON

The holiday season will be celebrated in Clinton on Sunday December 8.  Most activities run between 1 and 6 pm.  An ambitious schedule of events and activities all along Main Street has been put together by several civic organizations and volunteers.

Shoreline Community Women Inc.’s Annual Bazaar begins at 1:00 p.m. at Andrews Memorial Town Hall on Route One.  Crafts, gifts, cookies, bake sale, and coffee will be available.

Available for viewing will be the Arbor Garden Club Christmas Tree and Wreath Festival at the entry of Town Hall.  Designated trees and wreathes will be sold through silent auction.   

Main Street will be decorated with more than 600 luminaries set out and lit by Clinton Lions.  A gingerbread and Lego decorating contest will be on exhibit at First Church of Christ Congregational.  The church will host a living nativity on their lawn.  Other churches will be open for hospitality and refreshments as will many businesses.  Face painting, sponsored by the Rotary Club and Morgan students, will be available for children at The Church of the Holy Advent Parish Hall.  The Pretty Committee and Girl Scout Troop 62731 will be setting up Santa’s Workshop at the 1630 tourist booth in front of the Fire Department. The Fire Department holds its annual dinner from 4 to 7.  The dinner is open to the public.

There will be an Elf on the Shelf scavenger hunt sponsored by REACT/PiC, a soup cook-off sponsored by Families Helping Families are also set to go.  Ice sculpting by Aaron Thurber (Water’s Edge banquet chef) will be at the Commerce Street Green.  That area of downtown will be decorated and Post Office Square will be closed from noon to 6 p.m.  Food trucks will be parked in Post Office Square.  The Historical Society and Stanton House Museum will be open to visitors.  Children are welcome to decorate cookies at Body Karma Studio and Liberty Bank.  The Clinton Arts Project will host a premiere exhibition at 20 East Main Street.  

The Chamber of Commerce office will be open for hospitality and members of the Corridor Study group will be on hand to meet with public. The Methodaires barber shop quartet will provide music as they stroll along Main Street. Santa will make several stops during the day, including Malone’s Coffee House.

Meig’s Point Nature Center, Rudolph, hot chocolate, Frank’s Mobile Kitchen Pizza Truck, Charlie Brown Tree Decorating, and games are planned for Pierson School lawn.

 

Additions this year include The Learning Station (for children of all ages, hosted by Clinton Rotary) at Town Hall beginning at 12:30 p.m.  Tickets are free and available at The HCH Library Children’s room, the Chamber office, or by SASE to Clinton Rotary, P.O. Box 558, Clinton, CT  06413. Circle Consortium Recorder Ensemble will perform from 2 to 4 at the Congregational Church Hall.  The Old Lyme Town Band will give a free performance at 6 pm at Town Hall. The band is sponsored by Steward’s Ace Hardware.  Free tickets are available at Steward’s Ace Hardware, The Clinton Chamber of Commerce office, or by mailing a self-addressed stamped envelope to the chamber at 50 East Main Street, P.O. Box 334, Clinton, CT 06413.  Human Dog Sled Races, sponsored by Chris Damon of UBS Financial Services, will take place at The Pierson School at 3 pm.
