Don’t miss your chance to meet Dr. Lucianne Lavin and purchase a signed copy of her groundbreaking new book that looks at the 10,000-plus-years of history and culture of Connecticut’s indigenous peoples.

Dr. Lucianne Lavinwill be doing a booksigning at R.J. Julia Booksellers in Madison on June 19th at 6:30pm.

According to information received from the Institute for American Indian Studies, "This unprecedented look at the history and culture of Connecticut’s indigenous peoples from the first settlement of the state to the present day is based on a rich trove of materials, records and archaeological research.

More than 10,000 years ago, people settled on lands that now lie within the boundaries of the state of Connecticut. Leaving no written records and scarce archaeological remains, these peoples and their communities have remained unknown to all but a few archaeologist and other scholars. Lavinwill's pioneering book is the first to provide a full account of Connecticut’s indigenous peoples, from the long-ago days of their arrival to the present day."

Dr. Lavin is Director of Research and Collections at The Institute for American Indian Studies.  She is author of more than 100 articles and reports on the archaeology and ethno history of the Northeast, editor of the Journal Bulletin of the Archaeological Society of Connecticut, and co-director of the Connecticut Native American exhibition at the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History.  She lives in northwestern Connecticut.
