Panelists Announced for Girl Scouts of Connecticut's Speaker Series
Girl Scouts of Connecticut is hosting The State of Girls Speaker Series at Gateway Community College in New Haven on Wednesday, May 21, featuring moderated conversations among local experts on the state of girls today.
The Speaker Series, generously sponsored by First Niagara Foundation, a not-for-profit charitable foundation funded by First Niagara Bank, will focus on a groundbreaking report recently released by the Girl Scout Research Institute (GSRI) entitled “The State of Girls: Unfinished Business.” While overall, there is good news for girls, many still struggle with their emotional health, with 34% of high school girls self-reporting symptoms of depression. A panel of experts will discuss this research as well as community solutions that can be implemented to help move the needle and finish the job for girls’ empowerment everywhere.
“We are excited to introduce a dynamic emcee and an impressive lineup of speakers for New Haven’s Speaker Series panel discussion,” said Mary Barneby, CEO, Girl Scouts of Connecticut. “These experts will present compelling information about the state of girls today, and how everyone can be a part of our mission – to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.”The event will be held at the Community Center in New Haven (N100) from 5:30 – 7 p.m. Anne Worcester, Chief Marketing Officer for Market New Haven and Tournament Director of the New Haven Open at Yale, will act as emcee for the event. “I’ve had the pleasure of working with First Niagara Bank on a number of community initiatives, and have partnered with the Girl Scouts of Connecticut many times over the past 17 years, so I was thrilled when they asked me to emcee the State of Girls Speaker Series in New Haven,” said Anne Worcester, Chief Marketing Officer for Market New Haven, Tournament Director of the New Haven Open at Yale, and Speaker Series emcee for New Haven. “I hope this event shines a light on the many issues affecting young girls in our city, and provides a roadmap to solving some of these problems in the future.”
