Madison Historical Society Annual Appeal

MADISON HISTORICAL SOCIETY ANNUAL APPEAL FOR FUNDS
The Madison Historical Society will be sending out an Annual Appeal solicitation to all Madison residents in the coming weeks.  This request for funds, which will arrive in mailboxes in mid-November, is to help fund some very important projects, including the painting and removal of lead paint from the ca. 1785 Allis-Bushnell House, located at 853 Boston Post Road.
Residents may have noticed that the house, which has been owned by the Madison Historical Society since it was formed in 1917, is in the process of being painted a distinctive yellow shade.  This particular shade of yellow was discovered during a recent conservation assessment by Heritage Preservation Fund consultants, as the house was being stripped before painting.  The house was in dire need of paint and the society raised enough funds to paint the east and west sides of the historic building.  In order to complete the job, the society needs to raise additional funds.
The Madison Historical Society is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization whose mission is to "preserve, collect, interpret, and promote the history and heritage of Madison for present and future generations." It does not receive funding from the town of Madison.   The Society owns and maintains two historic buildings:  the Allis-Bushnell House and the recently restored Lee's Academy, located at 14 Meetinghouse Lane on the Madison Town Green.  Lee's Academy is home to the Society's exhibition gallery, where it presented the exhibit "The Business of Leisure: Madison Welcomes its Summer Colony" this past summer.  The Society also offers numerous educational programs including tours to all 2nd and 5th grade students, the popular Frederick Lee Lecture Series, the Annual Antiques Fair on the Green, and this past spring, the First Annual Remarkable House Tour.
