Madison Girl Scout Earns Gold Award
Bridget Conlon Kolf of Madison has earned her Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award a girl can earn in Girl Scouting.
In order to earn the Gold Award, Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts between the grades of 9-12 spend at least 80 hours researching issues, assessing community needs and resources, building a team, and making a sustainable impact in the community. A Gold Award recipient’s accomplishments reflect leadership and citizenship skills that set her apart as a community leader.
Bridget taught four 30-minute lessons for second graders about acceptance, tolerance, and inclusion. She surveyed the students at the beginning and end of the lessons, noticing a change in their answers after the lessons were complete. Ryerson Elementary School will continue with Bridget’s lesson plans in the future. As a result of her project, Bridget is planning a career in special education at the elementary school level.
