Pem: While a Pasta Benefit Dinner for a volunteer Fireman is a wonderful thing, and I truly hope there's a sellout crowd -- the event is in Old Saybrook 16 days from now. Just how does that meet the fierce urgency of "now" in Madison?

Barbara! Really? With all due respect to your considerable knowledge about the town, and I know it is significant, your comment shows that you know very little about planning and publicizing an important event. The best way to get people to come to an event is to publicize it in advance, then remind people halfway through, then remind them right before. Unlike town meetings, which are publicized every single day on Madison Patch on the front page (did you know that? They are ... check out the front page at madison-ct.patch.com!), events like these are not on the front page unless someone like Abby (thank you Abby!) or me writes about them. You are welcome to take Abby's fine example and use the free tools on Madison Patch to publicize information of interest to you. Now, if you want to debate that further, go back to the other story .. this one is about Cliff and his family's understandable fierce urgency of now. Focus.

this may not be urgent to you but it is important to his family and friends. my father has served the Madison community for over 30 years and put his life on the line without a second thought. this event has been being organized for months now. I decided to post a blog on the patch now to involve the community my father has been part of his entire life.

No worries Abby! Barbara is actually pretty nice and I'll bet she'll help out if she can. She just wants me to write another story, which I am writing ... when I'm not commenting on her comments. So I'm going to stop commenting until that story is written. Abby, I'm going to try to get a few posters posted as well! Good luck with everything and use the blogs as often as you'd like to keep us updated!

Wow. Barbara sounds very selfish. As a volunteer fireman, Cliff is has not been paid for his dedication and putting his life on the line for 30 years. I can't wait to attend the event and help Abby, Cliff and the family who has been lifetime members of our community.
