This Saturday, Tuxis Lumber at 85 Bradley Rd is having a grand re-opening. Come by for a hotdog and Read Moreclinics on operating a Makita powertool, growing a greener lawn with Jonathan Green and painting with the world's largest paint company, Pittsburgh Paints. Equally important, come by Tuxis Lumber and Hardware to congratulate employee Larry Becker on his recent track and field wins at the Special Olympics held this past Sunday at Southern Connecticut State University. Larry, who has worked at Tuxis since 1995, won 2 gold medals and one silver in the 50 and 100 meter running events. Larry lights up when asked about his wins. He likes to add a note of thanks to all the Special Olympics volunteers because, he says, “they are the reason I enjoy myself so much [at the Special Olympics]-everyone there is helpful and supportive. I always have a good time!” He has the same type of appreciation and dedication to his job at Tuxis. He started working in the lumberyard in 1995 as a part-timer on the weekends while at Morgan High School in Clinton. As a helper in the lumberyard, Larry was quiet but hardworking. Big things happened to Larry since he started working at Tuxis. As a child he watched his brothers take apart and put back together all the family's yard equipment. By the time he was in high school, he thought he would like to try his hand and proved great at assembling the Weber grills at Tuxis. All those years of watching paid off. He has become the busy guy who assembles all the Weber Grills and wheelbarrows that Tuxis sells. Larry also talks more than ever. When asked what he likes best about working at Tuxis, he instantly replied, “ The people here.” Larry’s laugh and conversation is heard regularly at Tuxis. Please come down to 85 Bradley on Saturday the 14, enjoy a hotdog, watch a few clinic demonstrations and congratulate Larry on his Special Olympic wins
