It Was A Perfect Day For a Plunge! [Video]

Madison Penguin Plunge raises more than $77,000! If you were there, we'd love to see your photos!

More than $77,000 was raised, about $6,000 more than last year!

Lisa Carlone from Special Olympics said that about 266 people took the plunge in Madison Saturday, fewer than the approximately 300 who signed up. She attributed that to the fact that the original date, last Saturday, was moved due to a forecast of snow.

"So we lost a few," she said. "But we had a great year here. We had great participants, great volunteers, great safety people. We want to thank everyone."

It's perfect weather for a plunge into Long Island Sound.

If you're a penguin, that is. Registration for the Madison Penguin Plunge starts at 10 a.m. at Hammonasset Beach State Park. The plunge itself is at noon. The forecast is calling for water temperatures in the vicinity of 39.9 degrees. No worries, though. Once those swimmers hit the beach, it'll be a balmy 44 degrees or thereabouts. Note to swimmers: wear water shoes to protect your feet from the chilly sand. You will be glad you did.

The Madison Penguin Plunge, which support Special Olympics, had raised $48,932.77 towards their goal of $50,000 as of Saturday morning. Here's your chance to make a difference! Donate now. (Here is the link: http://soct.convio.net/site/TR?fr_id=2543&pg=entry)
